About Us
The Association of Anesthesia Clinical Directors was formed in October 1988, by a group of anesthesia clinical directors who were invited to the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco to discuss clinical anesthesia and O.R. Management. At this meeting, it was obvious that the management problems of each individual were universal to all, and that common solutions could be found through association and dialogue.
The purpose of the society is to provide a forum for anesthesiologists whose primary responsibility is operating room management. We recognize that given the changing health care environment in which we practice, operating room efficiency, productivity, and cost containment are increasingly vital to our survival. The AACD offers physicians with an interest in the business aspect of operating room management an opportunity to share ideas with colleagues, meet anesthesiologists who have more experience than they in this area, and share in a common forum for the discussion of problems.
President's
Corner
Dear AACD Members,
I am honored to serve as your president of the AACD for the 2021-23 term.
This last year had some enormous challenges to our personal and professional lives, and the AACD has also had its share of the adversity brought by the pandemic. However, we overcame those difficulties and had an extraordinarily successful meeting this year with a virtual platform. We had 126 attendees, and I think we can all agree that it was extremely well-organized with valuable and engaging content.
Our VISION remains the same: Unparalleled Operational Efficiency
Our MISSION: rooted in the belief that Anesthesiologists are the uniquely qualified physicians within the hospital who have expertise in all operational areas of the hospital both clinically and administratively, the AACD is committed to helping all members and institutions leverage our unique perspectives and global view to improve operational processes for those whom we serve. Because we serve with the unique ability to coordinate operational activities in the operating rooms, intensive care units, non-traditional anesthetizing locations, and with the advent of the perioperative surgical home, traditional med-surg floors, data driven improvements in efficiency will contribute to superior patient care and safety as well as secondary financial stewardship for each institution.
I would like to encourage all members to consider FAACD designation (Fellow of the AACD). We currently have 21 fellows and this number is growing, applications details are on this website, or follow this link https://aacdhq.org/faacd-designation/
I would also like to ask everyone to reach out to colleagues and encourage membership in our organization, and if you are in academic environment please encourage some of our residents! OR consider an institutional membership!
Lastly, I am so looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible in person next year at the 2022 Perioperative Leadership Summit on March 25th-27th in Nashville, Tennessee.
Best regards,
Rebecca Barnett, MBChB
