About Us
The Association of Anesthesia Clinical Directors was formed in October 1988, by a group of anesthesia clinical directors who were invited to the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco to discuss clinical anesthesia and O.R. Management. At this meeting, it was obvious that the management problems of each individual were universal to all, and that common solutions could be found through association and dialogue.
The purpose of the society is to provide a forum for anesthesiologists whose primary responsibility is operating room management. We recognize that given the changing health care environment in which we practice, operating room efficiency, productivity, and cost containment are increasingly vital to our survival. The AACD offers physicians with an interest in the business aspect of operating room management an opportunity to share ideas with colleagues, meet anesthesiologists who have more experience than they in this area, and share in a common forum for the discussion of problems.
President's
Corner
Dear AACD Members,
I am proud to serve as your President for the 2019-2021 term. AACD advocates for unparalleled perioperative operational efficiency, operational management in procedural areas, cost effectiveness and value-base care. AACD’s unique expertise in all operational areas of the hospital allows us to influence members and institutions to improve operational processes for those we serve. The AACD will assist the physician Anesthesiologist to drive conversations in the rapidly changing health care system. From the bedside to C-suite, we can provide leadership in ways no other society can.
VISION: Unparalleled Perioperative Operational Efficiency
MISSION: Rooted in the belief that Anesthesiologists are the uniquely qualified physicians within the hospital who have expertise in all operational areas of the hospital both clinically and administratively, the AACD is committed to helping all members and institutions leverage our unique perspectives and global view to improve operational processes for those whom we serve. Because we serve with the unique ability to coordinate operational activities in the operating rooms, intensive care units, nontraditional anesthetizing locations, and with the advent of perioperative surgical home, traditional med-surg floors, data driven improvements in efficiency will contribute to superior patient care and safety as well as secondary financial stewardship for each institution.
If you are not already a member, please join the AACD. Feel free to contact me or anyone on the board. This is your opportunity to get involved! Together, we can help the AACD to stay strong, we can further help it grow, and blossom.
I would like to encourage all members to consider become a Fellow of AACD or FAACD. This is a unique member benefit to add this distinguished professional title after your name.
I would love to hear from you and meet many of you over the next year. I encourage you to join me at the 2020 Perioperative Leadership Summit in Newport Beach, California at the Duke Hotel on March 6-8, 2020.
Thank you and I look forward to working with you serving the AACD.
Best regards
Scott Engwall MD, MBA, FAACD
